[Exterior scene: Museum Roof 2AM.  A lone silhouette is lowering someone through a hole in the roof.  Smoke trails off his cigarette.]
[Interior scene: Large dark room, standard museum layout, glass case in the center on a pedestal, with a large diamond within.  A figure is seen being slowly lowered from the ceiling.  As he is lowered the POV switches to his perspective through the goggles, an elaborate laser trip field vanishes.]
Fujiko Mine: *static* Security grid offline.
Goemon Ishikawa: Roger that Fujiko, you had better get in position.
Fujiko: Way ahead of ya.
[The figure reaches the ground, he unsheaths a sword and procedes to slice open the case.  He removes the loose section and gently sets it on the floor.  He reaches into the case, having put his sword away, and removes the diamond.  The moment he does so, a very loud alarm is triggered.  As he stashes the diamond in a sack, he tugs the rope.]
[Exterior scene: Museum Roof.  The silhouette  pounds a button on the winch, and Goemon is quickly pulled up.]
[Interior scene: Museum.  A moment after Goemon is yanked out of the room, several security officers, the police, Inspector Koichi Zenigata, and the curator of the museum all rush in.]
Inspector Zenigata: Perfect!  It couldn't have gone any better!
Curator:  He has taken the bait?  You will be able to capture him now?
Zenigata: Of course!  You may rest easy now, he won't bother you anymore.
Curator:  No offense meant to you Inspector, but I'll feel a great deal more at ease with the original diamond back.  If you would be so kind?
Zenigata: Oh!  Yes of course, here you are.
Curator:  Thank you for your assistance in safegaurding this precious--
[At this point a large number of reporters storm in.]
Female Reporter: Inspector Zenigata!  Inspector Zenigata!  Is it true?  Have you finally captured Lupin?
Zenigata: Now, now.. while it is true I haven't yet caught Lupin, steps have been taken to ensure that he will be in our custody soon.
[During this address the Curator makes his exit form the room]
Male Reporter: How long have you been trying to capture Lupin?
Zenigata: Oh..um.. well the thing is..
[The female reporter ducks out during the Male Reporter's questions.  The Female Reporter and the Curator meet in the lobby, leave the museum and get in a parked news van.]
[Back in the museum]
Male Reporter: How can you be so sure you have him this time?
Zenigata: We've devised a way to have him lead us right to him.  And just as he thinks he's safe, we'll pounce!
[Zenigata pulls out a tracking system and looks at the screen.]
Male Reporter: Are you sure that--
Zenigata: No more questions!  The fiend is still nearby!
[Zenigata turns to address the cops with him]
Zenigata:Quick!  Before he knows we're on to him!
[Zenigata and the officers exit the museum, followed closely by the reporters.  Zenigata's device leads them to a parked news van.  Zenigata indicates for the crowd to be silent.  The police and reporters train their weapons and cameras respectively on the door as Zenigata whips it open to find... camera equipment.]
[Lupin III theme song begins to play as the opening montage begins.  The montage consists of Lupin and Fujiko removing their facial prosthetics with Jigen and Goemon in a completely different van.  Meanwhile Zenigata removes the fake diamond from the news van.  The camera goes to a closeup on Zenigata as his face gets very red and he yells, "LUPIN!!" as camera all around snap his picture.  All the while the opening credits are rolling until the song ends.]
